Carolyn Sarno, Senior Program Manager, High Performance Buildings; Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships
Carolyn Sarno manages Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships' (NEEP) High Performance Building team. In this role she assists states with the development and implementation of strategies to improve code compliance and promote operational energy savings in retrofit and new buildings.
Her High Performance Building team has been the recipient of a Green Apple Award from CHPS for advancing public policy for high performance schools. It was also part of a group that won the Jeffrey A. Johnson Award for excellence in the advancement of building energy codes and performance from the U.S. Department of Energy for developing the nation's first stretch energy code.
Ms. Sarno has more than 11 years of hands-on Facilities Management experience, most recently with the City of Newton, Mass., where she managed and coordinated all facilities operations and maintenance activities for 85 public buildings. She was also responsible for developing a capital improvement plan that incorporated sustainable best practices as well as coordinating the commissioning of a 330,000 sq. ft. addition to a high school.
In addition to her work for NEEP, Ms. Sarno is the Vice Chairman of the Collaborative for High Performance Schools Board of Directors, past Chair and a current member of the Town of Bedford's Energy Task Force. She also chaired Mass. Governor Deval Patrick's Net Zero Energy Task Force for Public Buildings.
She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Salem State College and is a Certified Building Operator.
